Technology - In-House Resin Technology
Bont has been developing our own resin systems since 1975. Unlike most manufacturers, we create our resins in-house to meet the specific needs of performance skating boots.
Our resin is extremely stiff for power transfer, yet softens at just 60°C (140°F), the lowest heat-molding temperature in the industry. This allows the boot to be reheated and remolded multiple times for a precise, custom fit.
Epoxy resin is a thermosetting polymer that requires a precise balance of resin and hardener. Temperature and humidity affect how it cures, so we use a computer-controlled mixing system to ensure the perfect ratio every time.
Most brands use pre-preg carbon, where the carbon manufacturer selects the resin and the boot maker cannot modify it. This limits heat moldability and often requires very high temperatures for even minor adjustments.
By developing our own resin, we control stiffness, flexibility, cure speed and heat-molding performance, giving skaters a boot that is strong, responsive and easy to customize.
